How to deal with obesity
Children that are overweight have a higher risk of developing serious ailments such as asthma, high blood pressure, premature puberty and diabetes. Obesity can also increase the risk of cancer. Overweight children has a higher health risks than children who are not.
There are parents blame their children's poor health on fast-food restaurants, but the fact is parents are a major cause of these problems. It is the parents' responsibility to ensure their children have healthy choices and get the right nutrition. There are many ways parents can show their kids to stay fit and healthy.
Parents should know their child's health condition and don't make excuses for them, just accept that they are overweight and do something about it. One way to keep in touch with reality is to consult your doctor. Your family doctor can tell you whether your child is overweight within the normal body mass index for your child's age and body mass.
Make a good example. Children mimic the behavior of their parents and other family members. If you want them to eat healthy food, then the diet of the whole family should do the same. This will help your kids learn which food they should eat, such as fruits, vegetables, and foods high in vitamins and minerals.
The high intake of sweets and foods high in fat and cholesterol is a major factor that leads to children obesity. The best way to keep children from eating too much of unhealthy foods is to clean up the refrigerator and the cabinets. Remove or hide all unhealthy foods from them and stock up on low-fat and sugar-free foods. This will keep the temptation away from the kids and help them to learn that these foods are an occasional indulgences.
Parent should be aware of the nutritional value of the foods they purchase. Always serve the proper portion of foods to your children to avoid over-eating that can disintegrate their health.
Children are normally picky with their food so, be patient but you should continue to introducing new foods to them.
Always set a time for eating. Parents are often lenient when it comes to meal time. They want to let their kids eat anytime they want. Children need some discipline and structure for meal times. Most importantly, parents should always encourage their children to involve in physical activity. Exercise will help keep your children's weight at a normal level, but it will also help maintain normal physical development.
